Sprucewood Shores (Sep 2015)

2013 Lady in Red – LCBO 266486 – $14.95 – This is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is uncomplicated, unpretentious and easy drinking. This is a beautiful expression of the Lake Erie North Shore terroir. The fruit is very ripe – lots of Strawberry, Raspberry, Cherry and Blueberry. Even though 2013 wasn’t a particularly warm year for most of Ontario you still have hints of Licorice, Cocoa and Raisin. The tannin is silky smooth an approachable immediately after opening. Just a reminder that not every bottle needs to age for a few years to be drink. Enjoy this on it’s own or with Pasta, Pizza or Burgers (all homemade of course).

2014 Sprucewood Shores Riesling – LCBO 326249 – $13.95 – This wine was very easy drinking. There is a nice kiss of sweetness on the finish of the wine but it is well balanced with nice acidity. The fruit is green and yellow apple with lime notes on the finish. The finish is bright and crisp with just the right amount of sweetness lingering. This is exceptional value and would be worth picking up a couple bottles to age. This will pair with sausages from the grill, fried chicken or pork dishes of any kind.
