Wine Review - 2017 Hinterland Borealis

2017 Hinterland Borealis – $23.00 – ****+ – It really does feel like every vintage the wines are getting better at Hinterland, and that’s saying a lot because the bar is already very high. This sparkling gamay rosé has become something I anticipate as soon as I’m done my last bottle. There is just a hint of sweetness on this that helps keep cherry and raspberry notes fresh. The note of black pepper goes from nose to finish and makes sure you’re aware that it is Gamay in the bottle. A perfect bottle to help make the transition from roasting meats in an oven to putting them on a grill. I feel this wine is as serious as you want to take it – if you want to dress it up for a fancy family gathering it will be right at home, but there is nothing wrong with gulping this wine on its own on a friday night.
