Wine Reviews - Redstone for Summer

I was thrilled to taste through some Redstone wines earlier this year. It’s always a treat to get to taste these wines.

2015 Sparkling Rosé – $29.95 – **** – This Pinot Noir sparkler is so fruity and delicious. The aromas are very pretty red fruit. On the palate this brings so much cherry and strawberry that it almost feels … juicy. That’s pretty unusual for a sparkling wine, but it’s very satisfying. The cherry note is met with citrus and bright crisp acidity. My favorite thing about this wine is the depth of the red fruit is so rich and concentrated that this is a bottle of Sparkling wine I can picture on my table next to a steak… but this is bubbles we’re talking about so of course your other food pairing options are endless.

2011 Meritage – $46.15 – **** – This is a blend of equal parts of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. This is an impressive wine that even though it’s already seven years old is youthful and vibrant. 2011 was sandwiched between two exceptionally hot vintages, and I think for many people it’s been overlooked and forgotten. Aromas and flavours are raspberry, blackberry, cassis, and plum. I would plan on holding this in a cellar for another 7-10 years, but there is nothing wrong cracking a bottle the moment you get your hands on it given it’s age already.

2015 Riesling – Limestone Vineyard South – $19.95 – **** – This bottle of wine had me asking myself the question “Why don’t I drink more riesling?”. Simply put, this is perfectly balanced offering the best of acid, sweetness, and delicious fruit. The aromas are lime, apple, and mineral. Flavours follow up the nose and finish with the mineral note taking front and centre.

2013 Chardonnay – Vintages 511428 – $25.70 – ****+ – Fantastic Chardonnay at the price from anywhere. Nice aromas of apple and peach with a bit of spice mixed in. On the palate is nice concentration of fruit and vanilla and spice to round out the package. On the finish a nice mineral note pokes through the fruit and spice and keeps this light. This is one of those wines that you’re not likely to find in my house next to any food and served with only a second glass.

2013 Chardonnay – Limestone Vineyard – $29.95 – ****+ – The limestone vineyard offers a little more depth in fruit and in mineral than the <> Chardonnay. Both of these wines are textbook examples of why Chardonnay rocks in this province. The mineral note helps keep this wine light on its feet and lends to its food friendliness. The fruit is ripe peach, pear, and apple. The fruit is caressed with a nice hint of vanilla from the barrel. I see this on my table next to any chicken dish… but let’s face it, I’m enjoying this without food.
