Wine Review - 2016 Southbrook Triomphe Chardonnay - 2017 13th Street Red Palette

2016 Southbrook Triomphe Chardonnay – Vintages 172338 – $24.95 – ****+ – Aromas are baking spice, baked apple, and vanilla. There is so much texture and richness coming out of the bottle – it’s unapologetic with the invasion of flavour it brings to your glass. There is nice weight on the mid-palate and fills your mouth with spice, caramel, and roast pineapple. These flavours linger for a nice long while on the finish. Food pairings will be a bit more of a challenge here because this wine is so rich and big on the palate but creamy pasta, or fried chicken should do the trick.

2017 13th Street Red Palette – Vintages 249458 – $15.95 – **** – It would seem that my mantra lately in the vintages section is that not all red wines need to spend time in a cellar. That’s not a bad thing either. Most people are taking their purchase home and cracking it immediately. This bottle from 13th Street is uncomplicated but brimming with juicy red fruit. Raspberry, Cherry, and Strawberry. The tannin is soft, and this wine is pretty much chuggable … I bet that’s the first time you’ve seen that in a wine review. Something to bridge the gap of the late summer barbeques leading into fall with roasts.
