Wine Review - 2016 Hidden Bench Fumé Blanc - 2016 Tawse Sketches of Niagara Riesling

2016 Hidden Bench Fumé Blanc – Vintages 68825 – $29.95 – **** – There is a subtlety, and restraint in this bottle. The aromas are passion fruit, and a nice note of mineral. On the palate this offers citrus, guava, and passionfruit. On the finish there is a slight smoky note that brings up the finish. There is a nice complexity to this wine, and I imagine this sitting on the table next to fried fish at my house.

2016 Tawse Sketches of Niagara Riesling – Vintages 89029 – $18.95 – **** – This is one of my favorite off-dry rieslings in the province every year. The day I’m writing this note it’s 25 degrees outside and I wish I had a glass of it in my hand right now. The orchard fruit is so vibrant and it feels like anything that can grow on a tree in Ontario has worked its way into the glass – peach, apple, apricot, nectarine. There is a nice lime note that rises to bring some balance to the ripe, sweet fruit flavours. This is a hard glass to not guzzle on a patio on a hot day.
