2007 Union Forté – Vintages 361758 – $16.95 – ****+ – It’s been a while since I tasted this wine. It’s just as good as I remember. There is a slight nuttiness and dried fruit to it over baking spices. This is quite light on the palate even though it is a port with nice acidity to round out the wine. There is a nice long finish to this wine that just sticks around while the fruit fades away leaving nice spice. This wine is very under priced and will make a great match to roast duck or on it’s own.
2012 Stratus White – Vintages 660704 – $44.20 – ***** – I had a chance to taste this wine earlier this year at Cuvée and it was tasting fantastic then. It has since settled down in bottle a little bit, and now it is as close to perfection as I have tasted this year. This is a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling but when it hits your glass it doesn’t bear resemblance really to any of its parts. This wine is seamlessly crafted to show you Vanilla and toasty oak on the nose layered over Peach, Pear and Apple with hints of spice. The flavours match the nose with a finish so long I can only describe it as epic. Your mouth will be filled with a cacophony of fruit with tropical flavours like passion and pineapple mingling in with the orchard fruit you find on the nose. I know this wine is a little pricy for a non-conventional blend of white varietals but trust me this is well worth the price.
