Wine Review August 16 – 2012 Nyarai Cellars Sauvignon Blanc – 2012 Norman Hardie Niagara Unfiltered Chardonnay – 2012 Megalomaniac Sonofabitch Pinot Noir

2012 Nyarai Cellars Sauvignon BLanc – Vintages 378398 – $19.95 – Sauvignon Blanc from Ontario tends to load on the citrus and can feel like a shock to your palate.  This Sauv Blanc is a little softer but still with nice food friendly acidity.  Flavours lean heavy towards citrus with a lot of grapefruit.  A perfect match for any summer fish fry or greek barbeque … pork or lamb souvlaki.

Since this wine was tasted Norman Hardie has been accused of sexual misconduct. The article can be found here – https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-canadian-winemaker-norman-hardie-accused-of-sexual-misconduct/

2012 Norman Hardie Niagara Unfiltered Chardonnay – Vintages 184432 – $39.20 – I had to include the Norman Hardie Chardonnay in this weeks review.  Even though this wine pushes close to the forty dollar mark it is still worth every penny.  Loads of toasty oak and vanilla roll off the back of the tongue and linger for a long time.  This is one of those wines that inspire me to be selfish and only share with people that I really like … no need to pair with food just serve a few degrees warmer than the fridge and in a big glass.

2012 Megalomaniac Sonofabitch Pinot Noir – Vintages 184432 – $24.95 – It has been awhile since anyone has seen Sonofabitch make an appearance from Megalomaniac.  This fruit driven pinot is fantastic value at $24.95.  Flavours of raspberry and ripe red cherry with subtle spice on the finish.  While this is drinking fantastic right now it has the potential to age 5-7 years and at this price there really is no reason to not pick up an extra bottle.  Serve slightly chilled.  The intensity of this Pinot will allow it to hold up to Steak or Lamb but being Pinot will be a good match with duck as well.
