Wine Preview – Get Fresh in the Valley 2014

There are a few events that fall into my yearly wine calendar as “must attend”.  Get Fresh is one of those events.  I am a big fan of visiting wine country in the off season.  When Get Fresh rolls around, it leaves me with mixed feelings … I’m happy because it’s the real kick off to summer, but it’s also before things really start to get busy in wine country.

Get Fresh is a passport event taking place weekends in April 5-6, 12-13, 26-27 and it costs $40+HST.  You can get your tickets here: http://www.20valley.ca/events/758/get_fresh_in_the_valley

This event has been gradually growing over the past few years.  I highly suggest making a weekend out of it as there are now twenty four wineries taking part.  Each winery has a wine and food pairing and at each stop along the way you collect recipe cards of the fantastic food you are enjoying.  If you’re the designated driver each winery also has a mocktail option … so you won’t be relegated to drinking water.  (Angel’s Gate Winery is serving a Shirley Temple).

To see that this is the kickoff to spring you just need to take a quick look at the wines being poured.  There are four wineries pouring Rosé (The Good Earth, Malivoire, Tawse and Henry of Pelham) which makes them mandatory tasting so I can stock up for Barbeque season.

This event is the perfect way to get out of your comfort zone especially if you’re in a wine rut and drinking the same stuff week after week.  Let me assure you between food and wine you get more than your moneys worth.
