Wine Reviews - Fancy Farm Girl

I think my biggest surprise going through the newest wines from Sue-Ann Staff was that there was a definite hint of sweetness on the Red … but I liked it anyways. I’m not talking Yellowtail sweet – it was just enough sweetness to help pump up the ripe fruit flavours. All three of these wines are perfect for casual drinking and good company. Don’t be surprised to find a few bottles of the Sauvignon Blanc in my house.

2013 Fancy Farm Girl Red – LCBO 394080 – $14.95 – ***½ – This bottle offers solid value and offers juicy, ripe, red fruit. The aromas are strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry. The flavours match the nose and this wine is gulpable. This will make a perfect match to pizza, pasta, or without food you can enjoy this wine on its own. No need to leave this in a cellar, and a great reminder that good wine doesn’t always have to stay bottled up for a later date.

2015 Fancy Farm Girl White – LCBO 394072 – $14.95 – ***½+ – I’m taking a sip of this wine and it has me yearning for warmer weather. This is the sort of wine that drinks a little like water on a hot day on a patio. Aromas of fresh peach, pear, and lime with nice freshness. On the palate the fruit is so ripe and juicy but it’s met with nice acidity. There is nice balance to this wine, but it’s really a case where the fruit flavours are meant to shine. Keeping the sweetness in mind this is something that I would pair with pierogies and sausages, or this may be a match to pizza.

2016 Fancy Farm Girl Sauvignon Blanc – LCBO 552059 – $15.95 – **** – With aromas of straw and tropical fruit this dry Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect bottle to include when fish or shellfish make an appearance on your table. That being said this is an easy sipping bottle that truly highlights why Sauvignon Blanc is something in Ontario that deserves a little bit more of our attention. At this price no reason to not enjoy this frequently as I don’t anticipate this staying on the shelf for long.
