Wine Review September 7, 2013 – 2011 13th Street Red Palette – 2011 Calamus Riesling

2011 13th Street Red Palette – VINTAGES 249458 – $15.95 – The Red and White Palette wines from 13th Street winery are the perfect definition of Party Wines.  I love the fact that these wines come in well under the twenty dollar price range as well.  It’s a blend of mainly Merlot and Gamay but you really taste the ripe red fruit flavours from the Merlot, there is lots of Raspberry and Plum.  The Gamay keeps the wine from being too heavy and makes this one of the most food friendly Red wines you will find in the vintages section.  It will pair with anything from Pizza to a Roast Beef.

2011 Calamus Riesling – VINTAGES 158642 – $16.95 – This is a delicious Riesling that has a nice soft finish.  This wine has a great balance between Grapefruit and Lime flavours, and nice mineral flavours that linger on the finish.  In spite of it’s nice acidity there is a nice finish to this wine.

If you’re looking for something to do next weekend there is a great event taking place in Prince Edward County.  If you haven’t had the chance to check it out it’s well worth the 90 minute drive to the east of the city.  Huff Estates, Rosehall Run, Closson Chase and the County Cider company present Red, White and Blues on Sep 13, 14 and 15.  All of the vineyards where concerts are taking place are simply fantastic so make sure you go check out some good tunes and some good wine next weekend.  Full concert listing and tickets can be purchased here: www.redwhiteandblues.ca
