Wine Review March 8, 2014 – 2009 The Foreign Affair Ex-Pat Riesling – 2012 Southbrook Triomphe Cabernet Sauvignon

2009 The Foreign Affair Ex-Pat Riesling – Vintages 372326 – $16.95 –  Some of the grapes are dried prior to pressing which makes a wine that is typically Riesling with flavours of Lemon and Lime but amplified.  In spite of the intense flavours this wine is remarkebly balanced and at this price you get a Riesling this is unique and delicious.  Balance in this wine makes it very food friendly but will pair best great eastern european fare … Perogies and Sausage, Potato Pancakes or Chicken Paprikash.

2012 Southbrook Triomphe Cabernet Sauvignon – Vintages 193573 – $22.95 – A great wine from a great vintage.  A continuing trend with the Triomphe wines this outperforms it’s twenty three dollar price easily.  Right after opening this wine is dangerously smooth flavours of Dark Cherry and Raspberry with subtle Smoke and Oak on the finish.  This will pair well with Steak, Pizza or Lamb dishes.
