Wine Review March 22 – 2012 Henry of Pelham Estate Chardonnay – 2012 Burning Kiln Strip Room Merlot/Cabernet Franc

2012 Henry of Pelham Estate Chardonnay – Vintages 268342 – $19.95 – I have made no secret over the past few months that I love finding great Chardonnay under that twenty dollar mark.  It really seems that Niagara has stepped up it’s game in bringing really great affordable to the LCBO shelves (wines from Malivoire and Flat Rock come to mind).  The cork in this bottle can barely contain the intensity of the aromas and flavours of this wine.  Pineapple and Apple are on the nose with flavours to match and a very nice smoky finish.  This will be a perfect match for grilled chicken (it’s almost bbq weather right?)

2012 Burning Kiln Strip Room Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2012 – Vintages 327700 – $24.95 – Made with kiln dried fruit you end up with a wine that has lots of ripe red fruit punching through smokey and leathery flavours.  A little higher in alcohol and heavier than what you may be used to tasting from Ontario but with a little time in the decanter before serving the fruit flavours will really snap into focus.
