2013 Featherstone Sauvignon Blanc – Vintages 89011 (July 19) – $19.95 – Sauvignon Blanc from Ontario is interesting because they all have a tropical, citrus blast on the palate but every winery seems to have varying degrees of herbacious and grassy notes. Your citrus on this wine is great lemon and lime and on the finish you have a subtle herbacious note. The finish is bright and crisp with fantastic acidity. This Sauvignon Blanc is a taste of summer and will be a perfect match for any fish fry.
2013 Silver Bay Cellars Pinot Noir – LCBO 372789 – $14.95 – This is a new label from the folks at Henry of Pelham who are taking over the VQA sections at the LCBO big by bit (they now have Sibling Rivalry, House Wine Co., Classic Henry of Pelham and Family Tree in Vintages). The clean label definitely stands out on the shelf, and the wine speaks volumes as well. Affordable Pinot Noir is always a challenge for Ontario producers but over the past couple years I have found that the price of good Pinot has become a little bit lower. In the bottle you will find aromas of Dark Cherry and flavours of Dark Cherry with nice earthiness on the finish. The earth on the finish gives this wine some legs to stand on if you were to serve it with barbeque. Enjoy this with beef or lamb burgers or on its own.
