Wine Review January 25, 2014 – Hinterbrook Riesling 2012 – Rosewood Merlot 2011

2012 Hinterbrook Riesling – Vintages 270512 – $17.95 – Very nice Riesling with aromas and flavours of apples.  This is a very soft Riesling.  Even though the sugar content is low compared to many other off-dry examples because of the soft acidity you notice the sugar a little bit more.  This isn’t a bad thing!  If I had to describe this wine in one word it would be subtle.  This is a great Riesling where you will need to be a little more mindful of your food pairings.

2011 Rosewood Merlot – Vintages 211896 – $22.00 – The nose has lots of ripe Raspberry, Cherry and subtle Vanilla.  Lots of juicy red fruit with some notes of mint and herb.  The finish is great and smooth.  This wine needs some time in a decanter.  While tasting this wine it improved on the second day after being opened.  The herb notes in this wine make it great to pair with Beef or Lamb Stews.
