Wine Review February 1, 2014 – Pelee Island Cabernet Franc 2012 – Niagara College Teaching Winery Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2010

2012 Pelee Island Cabernet Franc – LCBO 433714 – $11.95 – This is one of my go-to wines when I’m entertaining for a large group or when I’m cooking.  It goes very well in sauces and stews and pairs with just about anything beef.  Very fruit forward with lots of very ripe blueberry flavours and subtle currant.  At this price you really can’t go wrong.

2010 Niagara College Teaching Winery Barrel Fermented Chardonnay – Vintages 40634 – $18.95 – This is a full bodied Chardonnay that has some powerful Oak notes to it.  I usually like serving my white wines colder than is suggested but if you serve this at fridge temperature the barrel flavours will over power the wine.  This wine shines when served slightly chilled and underneath toasted oak notes you have flavours of peach and citrus.  This will pair beautifully with creamy pasta dishes.
