Wine Review January 13, 2013 – Flourish Vidal Icewine 2008 – Pelee Island Eco-Trail 2011

What if I told you you could get a bottle of Icewine and a good Red for less than 30$.  You’d call me crazy right?  Well I have done just that this week.

Flourish Vidal Icewine 2008 – VINTAGES 222356 – $17.95 – It’s not often you can find Icewine at this price.  But other than the price there is a lot to love with this wine.  It has a long finish that leaves a wonderful honey flavour on the back of your tongue.  This is very sweet (as is the case with Icewine) so if you are going to pair this with anything make sure you’re not going sweet on sweet.  I would suggest this goes with foie gras or even paté.  It is very heavy on the palette.

Pelee Island Eco-Trail 2011 – LCBO 612465  – $10.95 – This wine is loaded with a lot of fruity flavours Raspberry and Cherry that has a very jammy texture (I hate using the word Jammy but there is no other way to describe it).  This is definitely your Friday night sipper.  Pick up a pizza or pasta and enjoy matching this with the tomato sauce.  A red that is a blend of Chambourcin, Baco Noir and Cabernet Franc.  This is not a wine that needs to be complicated or aged pop the bottle and enjoy.

Speaking of Icewine the iYellow Wine Club has some great tours going on Jan 19 and 26.  You can get your tickets here: https://iyellowwineclub.com/events
