Wine Review August 24, 2013 – 2010 Tawse Laundry Vineyard Cabernet Franc – 2011 Reif “The Empress” Unoaked Chardonnay

2010 Tawse Laundry Vineyard Cabernet Franc – Vintages 130997 – $31.95 – I don’t make any secret that I believe Cabernet Franc will be “The Wine” that defines Ontario.  As long as we have wineries like Tawse who keep making consistently great Cab Franc I hope it’s going to happen.  This is one of those wines that surpasses the level of “open to impress company” right into “be greedy and don’t share with anyone”.  Loaded with fruit but very refined.  Everything lines up on your palette leaving a nice finish.  Well worth the price of admission for a ticket for one.

2011 Reif The Empress Unoaked Chardonnay – LCBO 346791 – $12.95 – Light, Crisp, Easy drinking!  The tarot card bottles from Reif are a lot of fun!  (If you check the back of the store you might still find a few bottles of the Magician kicking around http://www.newstalk1010.com/blog/andreproulx/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10528734).  Very dry, but full of lemon and pineapple notes.  A nice mellow finish coats your palette and hangs around for awhile.  This is a wine that is a complete package of value, quality and snappy label.  A great wine to stock up on before the labour day weekend.
