Wine Review August 17, 2013 – 2011 Coffin Ridge Bone Dry Riesling – 2011 The Good Earth Cabernet Franc

2011 Coffin Ridge Bone Dry Riesling – Vintages 232744 – $17.00 – Fun, snappy packaging!  I’m always hooked by a clever label but question number 2 is whether or not the wine is as good as the label.  This Riesling is fantastic, loads of apple flavour with a crisp backbone of acidity.  The winery is located off Georgian Bay which is why you haven’t seen it on the drive to either Niagara or Prince Edward County.  Easy patio sipper but will pair great with Greek dishes, Barbequed Chicken or nothing at all.

2011 The Good Earth Cabernet Franc – Vintages 350751 – $21.95 – The Good Earth is a great smaller winery I love stopping by when I visit the wineries around 20 valley.  The thing about smaller boutique wineries is that often I get hung up on a certain wine because they do it so well, for The Good Earth it is their Riesling.  Both dry and off dry are fantastic.  That being said I love finding something that throws me for a loop.  This Cabernet Franc is loaded with dark fruit flavours, raspberry but almost a licorice taste on the back of the tongue.  The finish leaves you with a bit of vanilla and cocoa on the back of the tongue.  It looks like 2011 will be a good year to tide us over until the 2012’s come out!
