2016 Featherstone Joy Premium Cuvée Sparkling Rosé – Vintages 450700 – $29.95 – ****+ – I had a chance to taste this earlier this year – so this was a re-visit for me when I tasted it recently. It delivered everything I enjoyed about this wine in the spring and then some. The vibrant red fruit was still present on the nose and on the mid palate – but there was a bit of complexity starting to develop. A nice bread note has started to squeeze itself in with the flavours of raspberry and maraschino cherry. Maybe this isn’t a wine I shouldn’t have spent the summer gulping and should have saved a few bottles – it’s a good thing it’s hitting the vintages shelves as we head into the cooler season. Something to savour right now – or stock up on a few bottles to see how it will evolve over the next few years.
2016 Creekside Backyard Block Sauvignon Blanc – Vintages 341792 – $22.00 – **** – This is an intense wine – aromas of passion fruit and citrus reach out of the glass and grab your nose. Once you take your first sip the intense tropical notes are met with a nice grassiness and a hint of red pepper. The savoury notes are well buried under all the tropical fruit. The finish is crisp and clean making this a perfect match for seafood and creamy pasta.
