A Pair of Pink Wines to Enjoy in August

2015 Flat Rock Pink Twisted – Vintages 39974 – Price $16.95 – ****+ – The quality of Rosé that is on the market from Ontario wineries this spring is second to none. The aromas of watermelon, and candied cherry made me very happy. I love it when wines taste and smell a little like fruit roll ups. Hints of candied Cherry and Raspberry are what you find in the glass on a wine that finishes dry. There is just a touch of sweetness but it is met with perfect acidity. This wine is a little more restrained and soft on the palate. This will still make a perfect match for most of your summer entertaining but you may want to hold off on the red meat with this wine. While Rosé is made for food, frankly this is a bottle that I wouldn’t pair with anything… Enjoy this one cold and on the patio.

2015 Cuvée D’Andrée – Vintages 333260 – Price $15.95 – ****+ – This is your gold medal winner from the 2016 Ontario Wine Awards. The award is very well deserved as this wine is a bit of a contradiction. On one hand it is refined and elegant with a nice clean finish. On the other hand it hits your palate with an intensity that I can only describe as explosive. The concentrated flavours of Strawberry, and Raspberry are bold enough that this wine is in fact your Swiss Army knife Rosé for the summer. You can dress your table up with a light summer salad and grilled squid and this is your wine … Or fire up the BBQ and grill up some ribsteak (that isn’t too heavily seasoned) and this will pair easily with your red meat
