2010 Montecillo Crianza – LCBO 144493 – $14.95 ($11.95 until Nov 29, 2015) – **** – Very fruit forward and ripe. The nose is jammy strawberry, plum, and blackberry. When you taste the wine the fruit takes over your mouth but as it starts to roll off the back of your tongue there is a bit of a rough edge to this wine. The edge to the wine lets you know that it’s not ready to be taken too seriously. This wine is meant to be paired with red meat of any kind whether it’s steak or lamb. It will also be perfect with more casual meals like Pasta with Tomato Sauce or Pizza of any kind. This wine is very good especially for it’s price.
2009 Montecillo Reserve – LCBO 621003 – $18.95 – **** – This is everything that you found in the Crianza but the tannin is velvet smooth on the finish. The nose is fruity and ripe with Strawberry, Blackberry and Plum and the flavours match. Simply put this wine drinks dangerously easy. The smooth finish on this wine has me not wanting to pair it with any food at all and to just enjoy it on it’s own. The finish on this wine is long with echoes of the fruit flavours lingerling on the palate nice and cleanly long after the wine is gone.
