2013 Merlot – ****+ – $24.95 – Winery Only – This wine is stunning! The nose is ripe aromas of smoke with black currant, blackberry and coffee. The nose almost fools you because it is restrained and elegant. Once the wine hits your tongue prepare for a wake up call. There is Raspberry, Blueberry, Blackberry, Currant with Coffee and Cocoa notes on the finish. The tannin is very firm in this wine. There is some serious aging potential in this bottle — I would wait 3 years before revisiting and hold onto some for 10. If you’re impatient make sure you decant this fro an hour or two before serving. This will make a great match to a great cut of beef served medium rare off the grill.
2013 Cabernet Syrah – **** – $18.95 – While you are waiting for your Merlot to age gracefully in your collection you can pick up a bottle of the Cabernet Syrah open and serve immediately. The nose is heavy with a smoky almost meaty aroma mingled in with dark plum and cherry. You will immediately detect Syrah off the nose of this wine but the flavours are definitely Carbernet with Raspberry, Black Currant and Plum. The finish is also distinctly Syrah with a nice spicy note on the finish. This will be a great addition to any summer gathering whether it’s Pizza or Burgers.
