2013 Sauvignon Blanc – Vintages 89011 (July 19) – $19.95 – Sauvignon Blanc from Ontario is interesting because they all have a tropical, citrus blast on the palate but every winery seems to have varying degrees of herbacious and grassy notes. Your citrus on this wine is great lemon and lime and on the finish you have a subtle herbacious note. The finish is bright and crisp with fantastic acidity. This Sauvignon Blanc is a taste of summer and will be a perfect match for any fish fry.
2013 Gewurztraminer – Vintages 64592 (July 5) – $19.95 – The bad news about this Gewurz is that it will be the last vintage we see from Featherstone as they lost their Gewurz vineyard from the very cold winter this year. Rosewater and Lychee on the nose and palate with nice palate cleansing acidity on the finish. There is a fantastic finish on this wine leaving you with rose petal filling your mouth. I love sipping on Gewurz during the summer with no food pairing. I do enjoy serving the wine at almost fridge temperature and having it warm up in my glass on a patio. My preferred food pairings with this wine are Spicy Asian Cuisine or Perogies.
2013 Black Sheep Riesling – Vintages 80234 – $16.95 – The Black Sheep Riesling is one of my “go to” wines year round. I consider this wine a benchmark for consistency and quality. This wine is off-dry but you wouldn’t know it because of great acidity on the finish. There are flavours of Green Apple and Grapefruit and a nice minerality. Light and easy drinking this will pair well with grilled chicken, creamy pasta dishes or toss it in the basket for lighter picnic fare.
