Here’s a couple reviews for wines that were sent to me to taste recently. Neither one of these are among what I usually taste (being that they are not from Ontario).
NV Yellow Tail Moscato – LCBO 443713 – $10.95 – ***1/2 – Low alcohol and easy drinking this wine comes in at 7.5%. This definitely has some nice bubbles to it, but it’s not a full blown sparkling wine. This is the sort of wine that will make a great base for a mimosa. There is a bit of sweetness on the finish of this wine but it is kept under control by the carbonation and acidity. Let’s face it, this isn’t meant to be a serious wine. There’s nothing wrong with that. This will make a great brunch pairing or something to enjoy on a very hot day. Trust me, this wine tastes better the warmer it gets outside.
2013 Fleur du Cap Cabernet Sauvignon – LCBO 457101 – Price TBD – ***1/2 – Not all wine is meant to serious. This is fruit driven and more medium bodied. The nose is ripe and powerful aromas of raspberry, cherry and strawberry with hints of cocoa all mixed in. The flavours match the nose and drink very smooth. This is a great wine to pair with barbeque. The very ripe fruit on this wine will make a great match to barbequed ribs as the fruitiness will complement the sweetness in the sauce. If it’s raining and you don’t feel like firing up the grill pizza will make a great match as well. Unpretentious and easy drinking.
