2015 Featherstone Canadian Oak Chardonnay – $21.95 – ****+ – The nose hits your immediately with the signature funk letting you know that this is an indigenous ferment but it quickly makes way to vanilla, citrus and golden delicious apple. The balance to this wine is outstanding with nice weight on the palate and a creamy texture that is met with nice acidity. Flavours of butterscotch and baking spice are met with apple and orange. The finish lingers leaving a bit of that funk from the nose and some spice to tide you over until your next sip. This continues to be one of the best priced hidden gems from the province, ignoring the fact that this is an indigenous ferment made using Canadian oak barrels simply put this is kickass Chardonnay.
West Niagara has some fabulous Oaked Chardinnay and I make sure our B & B guests learn how extra fabulous it is in the correct glass!! And, it’s not a white wine glass.
