Eye on Angel’s Gate – Rage/Revenge

141101 - Rage Revenge

Angel’s Gate are continuing a makeover that you may have already noticed with the Handsome Brut that is currently available in the LCBO but you will also notice a couple of new bottles called Rage and Revenge.  Easy drinking and accessible these fun bottles will make a great addition to any casual get together… I dare you not to chuckle when reading the tag on the Revenge bottle saying it’s best served cold.

2009 Revenge White (best served cold) – LCBO 393918 – $13.95 – Loaded with beautiful aromatic varietals (Gewurztraminer, Semillon, Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc) this blend has a floral, perfume like quality to the nose but the flavours are loaded with apple, pear, peach and nice acidity.  This is definitely a party wine to serve a large group.  Even though this isn’t the most complex “refined” wine on the market it will pair with just about anything you can put on the table or pair with nothing but good company.  Like the bottle says … best served cold.

2012 Rage Red – LCBO 352351 – $13.95 – The tagline on this wine isn’t as snappy as Revenge, but the wine will also fit in nicely at a casual pizza party.  As hockey, football, basketball and the world series all get ready to kick in put down the beer and crack something that will go great with your steak, burgers and barbeque sauce soaked ribs.  There is a lot going on in the bottle as this is a blend of «takes a deep breath» Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec, Dornfelder, Gamay, and Cabernet Sauvignon «exhale».  Very fruit forward Raspberry, and Cherry with just a bit of spice on the finish (thanks to the Cab Franc, Syrah and Gamay).  In spite of the complexity of the mix this is not pretentious and easy to drink.
