2010 Reif Vidal – LCBO 111781 – $9.95 – It is not often that you see Vidal on it’s own in a table wine. A couple weeks ago I recommended the Southbrook Connect White which is also a Vidal. Typically you see the hearty Vidal grape used for Ice Wine, so it is nice to see it on it’s own. This is a wine that is a little higher in acid and quite dry. The best part about this wine is the wonderful aroma of honey that leaps out of the glass. While maybe not the best to be enjoyed on it’s own this will pair perfect with a spicy cajun dish as the mellow Vidal does cover the whole mouth and sit on the tongue well after it is swallowed. Just keep in mind as well even though this says Vidal on the bottle it is very different from any Vidal Ice Wine you may have tried, this one is a very dry. Also did you notice the price?
2009 Vintage Ink Cabernet Merlot – VINTAGES 250209 – $17.95 – This has a very distinct bottle, it’s very Miami Ink. This is an excellent value, very well put together wine. The barrel flavours are definitely front and centre with a nice finish of dark red fruit leaning towards black currant and raspberry. This is one that is easy to enjoy on it’s own and will pair easily with most red meat dishes whether it’s Barbeque or a hearty Stew. If you’re going to have a hearty wine you should have a hearty meal.
