I can certainly say that 2012 was the summer of Rosé. There are so many well put together Pink wines coming from Ontario that I had a hard time narrowing the list down to four. That being said, the reason I am talking about Rosé in October is that it is a crowd pleaser. This summer, tasting many of these wines filled with flavours of Strawberry and Cranberry all I could think about how I couldn’t wait until Thanksgiving and pair them with Turkey.
Sibling Rivalry Pink 2011 – LCBO 171033 – $13.95 – The 2010 vintage was celebrated with the Lieutenant Governor’s award for Excellence in Ontario Wine. My favorite thing about Sibling Rivalry of all colours is it is consistently excellent, and always stands head and shoulders above its price point. Still a dry Rosé you will find a touch of sweetness on this wine it is loaded with Strawberry flavours.
Coyote’s Run Pinot Noir Rosé 2011 – Vintages 295436 – $14.95 – This Vintages pick is easy to find and perfectly priced. I really like Pinot Noir Rosé because of the finish. This has a bit of an aftertaste that is almost like Sparkling Wine. But on the front you get flavours of Strawberry and slight flavours of Black Currant.
Hinterbrook Rosé 2011 – $16.00 – Vintages 275818 -(originally reviewed August 5, 2012)Another offering in a string of excellent Rosés from Ontario. Open this bottle and serve it very cold and you are rewarded with wonderful strawberry flavours with a bit of a kick to it. The spicy notes on this forces you to sip and enjoy. This characteristic alone helps this wine stand out in a field already filled with excellent Rosé
Flat Rock Cellars Pinot Noir Rosé 2011 – Vintages 39974 – $16.95 – I am a big fan of Flat Rock Cellars. This wine is completely sold out at the winery! Luckily there are still more than a few bottles kicking around the LCBO. Cranberry and Blackberry are what you find in this bottle with a nice crisp finish. Flat Rock deal with Pinot Noir very well and this is no exception.
These are wines that need to be served chilled, but don’t serve them right at Fridge temperature. I would take them out of the fridge when you are getting ready to carve your turkey to warm them to a few degrees warmer than fridge temperature.
