Wine Review October 4 – 2009 Rancourt Meritage – 2012 Henry of Pelham Estate Riesling

2009 Rancourt Meritage – Vintages 394106 – $20.00 – Lots of ripe raspberry, blackberry and currant in the bottle.  I still enjoy the red wines from 2008 and 2009.  They tend to be fruit forward and easy drinking.  The finish on this wine has hints of cocoa.  There is nice firm tannin on this wine so open it at least a half hour before serving or pick up a few bottles to have it develop over the next couple years.

2012 Henry of Pelham Estate Riesling – Vintages 557165 – $17.95 – Off-dry with balanced acidity this is a very nice wine to pair with roast pork or turkey… or enjoy it on its own.  Aromas of peach and chalk lead to flavours that also include green apple and a citrus burst.  The acidity feels a little softer on the palate because of the higher sugar in this wine.
