Strewn Terroir Sauvignon Blanc 2011 – VINTAGES 343897 – $17.95 – Sauvignon Blanc from Ontario is great, you usually end up with a wine that is a blend between bright Citrus notes and subtle herbaciousness. When you compare Sauv Blanc from Ontario against those from New Zealand (if you haven’t heard … they are kind of known for their Sauv Blanc) you will find the flavours reversed; intense herbaciousness with suble fruit flavours. This is an intense wine that strikes a great balance between strong citrus flavours screaming of lime, and grassy herbs. The crisp acidity reminds you that this wine is in fact from Ontario. I will be sipping a LOT of this during the summer.
L’Evidence 2011 – LCBO 315226 – $16.30 – A wine from France… apart from Beaujolais I don’t often make a departure from the great vineyards of Ontario but there is a connection here. The winery is owned by John Howard, the same man responsible for the great wines from Megalomaniac (makers of my favorite Cabernet Franc from the past two years). This wine is a lesson in patience! I opened this bottle and took a little bit right after opening, it was a little too harsh and something about the balance was off that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I let the bottle sit opened for 3 hours and served it with Steak and Asparagus and this wine was fantastic! Lots of fruit in this one Black Currant, Dark Plum and even Blueberry on the long soft finish. You will find this wine in the Regular list and will make a great companion to your summer grilling.
