Wine Review August 30 – 2013 The Foreign Affair Amarosé – 2012 Stratus Red Icewine

2013 The Foreign Affair Amarosé – Vintages 388702 – $18.95 – This wine has a hint of sweetness on the finish.  I consider this wine beautiful and complex.  This wine is a lot of Strawberry and Raspberry with a good finish.  This is definitely a swiss army wine as it will pair with anything and something worth holding onto for turkey season in the fall and winter.  Until turkey season rolls around this will match with just about anything you can throw at it from the grill whether burgers (beef OR turkey), chicken or steak.

2012 Stratus Red Icewine – Vintages 56689 – $39.95 – Oh sweet Icewine … you are typically relegated to being gifted and re-gifted in the months of December and January.  How about this, pull your bottles out of the closet and pop the bottles in the summer months.  My mantra with icewine is to stop serving it with dessert and move it to the front of the meal and serve it with your salty, fatty, delicious appetizers.  The mistake most people make is to pair their icewine with dessert.  When you match sweet on sweet you end up with a battle of sugar in your mouth and let’s face it … it’s not enjoyable.  Match Icewine with anything as fancy charcuterie to your basic pigs in a blanket and it will elevate your meal.  The novelty of Red Icewine has not worn off on me as this special wine is very jammy with nice acidity to help cut through the complete sweetness.  This is like liquid strawberry jam.
