Wine Review August 10, 2013 – 2010 Megalomaniac Big Mouth Merlot – 2008 Vineland St Urban Elevation Riesling

2010 Megalomaniac Big Mouth Merlot – Vintages 67645 – $24.95 – This is a great, easy drinking red wine.  But don’t let the fact that it’s Merlot fool you this is still a very BIG wine.  Lots of very ripe fruit flavours, Raspberry, Blackberry even a bit of Currant with a nice smooth finish leaving your mouth with a little bit of smoke on the finish.  This is a great barbeque wine or another great patio sipper with a sweater and the cooler evenings.

2011 Vineland Elevation St Urban Riesling – Vintages 38117 – $19.95 – I recently had a party at my home where I served 6 Rieslings, 5 from Ontario, 1 from Alsace (and a bottle of Blue Nun … just to see what people had to say).  This wine came out on top by a narrow margin (the Black Sheep Riesling from Featherstone 80234 $16.95 came second).  Great Riesling, even if it is a bit sweet, will strike a perfect balance between acidity and sweetness.  You should get lots of citrus flavours without it overpowering your mouth but as the wine rolls off the back of your tongue you will feel refreshed and ready for the next sip.  This wine is as close to perfect balance you can find.  Lots of Lemon and Lime in this wine but very dry.
