Wine Review - 2016 Wildass Sauvignon Blanc - 2016 Malivoire Gamay

2016 Wildass Sauvignon Blanc – Vintages 376814 – $18.95 – **** – This is very interesting version of Sauvignon Blanc. It draws a little bit of what makes Sauvignon Blanc great from all over. There is a slight savory note of bell pepper that rears its head to the finish that has me thinking of New Zealand. The guava, and passion fruit note that soars over the mid palate has me thinking of Sancerre. The texture of this wine has some nice weight on the mid palate, but it’s met with bright crisp acidity and finishes clean. This wine is essential for any fish fry or seafood of any kind that graces your table this summer.

2016 Malivoire Gamay – Vintages 591313 – $17.95 – **** – The lighter side of Gamay in the province. Between this bottle and Chateau des Charmes there is a firm gateway to fall in love with Gamay. In spite of the hot 2016 summer this bottle screams cool climate winemaking. The nose is sour cherry, but the palate offers blackberry, dark cherry, and more of the sour cherry from the nose. The tannin is very soft, and the finish is met with nice acidity. A perfect bottle for Coq au Vin – as the weather warms up match this next to grilled chicken or pork.
