2016 Blue Mountain Chardonnay – Vintages 350108 – $28.95 – **** – The toasted oak really does soar over the pineapple, and peach notes both on the nose and on the palate. So if you’re note a fan of oak in your Chard you may want to look elsewhere. The flavours are rich and complex with spice mingling with citrus and orchard fruit. The finish on this wine is long and spicy. I would squirrel a bottle away for a year or so to let things settle down a bit.
2014 Domaine Queylus Tradition Pinot Noir – Vintages 392738 – $29.95 – ****+ – This hits all the right notes for Ontario Pinot. A bit of damp, mossy forest floor climbs out of the glass. There is also a nice black cherry note being caressed with vanilla. The flavours match the nose and this opens up on the palate with nice concentration. Nice value in this bottle and while it’s approachable and drinking great now this is definitely something you could cellar for a few years.
