Wine Review - 2015 Bachelder Wismer-Foxcroft N. 2 Chardonnay - 2014 Stratus Gamay

2015 Bachelder Wismer-Foxcroft N. 2 Chardonnay – Vintages 547299 – $44.95 – ****+ – I have often said that Chardonnay doesn’t last long in my house because it’s ready to drink young. This bottle is something that requires a little patience and time to settle down. The nose offers vanilla and baking spice. On the palate peach, pear, and apple all push through the barrel flavours. The vanilla and spice from the nose follow through and caress the fruit with nice balance. Bright acidity on the finish has me thinking about creamy pasta, or fried chicken on my table.

2014 Stratus Gamay – Vintages 312082 – $29.20 – ****+ – The way winemaker JL Groux is a testament to how great he really is. Every vintage of Gamay from Stratus offers something unique – but still offers something that is true to the characteristics of the grape. This is rich with ripe cherry and raspberry notes and a bit of spice on the nose. On the palate the fruit is juicy and rich, the tannin starts smooth but brings a little grip to the glass as it tries to hold on. This is a perfect example of Gamay that could spend some time in a cellar if you decide to keep this for 5-7 years… but nothing wrong with enjoying it now.
