Wine Review - 2014 Cave Spring Estate Bottled Gewurztraminer - 2016 Thirty Bend Winemaker's Blend Double Noir

2014 Cave Spring Estate Bottled Gewurztraminer – Vintages 302059 – $17.95 – **** – This really is a special bottle of wine. Gew can be a tough nut to crack when you love food – but the acidity in this wine gives it a layer of food friendliness you don’t often find from this floral, aromatic grape. This has nice weight on the mid palate and fantastic concentrated lychee, and rosewater. There is just a hint of sweetness to really help the tropical note in this bottle pop. This is an obvious and fantastic choice for Asian cuisine, but in the summer I love doing this with sausages off the grill.

2016 Thirty Bench Winemaker’s Blend Double Noir – Vintages 493973 – $18.95 – **** – This is a very nice blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir – this truly offers the best of both worlds, and it’s something that has a bit of restraint. A floral note from the Pinot joins up with the spice note from the Gamay. This is an essential bottle for your summer barbeque. On the palate cherry is soft, but juicy – and satisfying. This finishes with dried violet and spice. This bottle offers exceptional value both on the Pinot and Gamay front.
