2013 Stratus Red Icewine – Vintages 56689 – $39.95 – ****+ – Red Icewine is still a well kept secret in the province. If you have never had the chance to taste Red Icewine you may as well set the bar high and go with a great producer like Stratus. This is very complex with floral notes mingled in with strawberry, and raspberry. To wrap up the whole package you have a bit of spice on the finish and beautiful acidity. Keep in mind that this is still Icewine so be careful to pair this with only dark chocolate if you’re doing dessert. This would be more at home with pâté and served with your appetizer.
2013 Rosewood Origin Cabernet Franc – $25.95 – ****+ – This wine is stunning! Beautifully elegant and easy drinking but with a lot of structure that will allow this wine to age gracefully for the next 5-8 years. The nose loaded with red fruit and very nice savory notes of freshly cut herbs. The savory edge is so subtle I hesitate to call it bell pepper but it is definitely there to let you know that this wine is begging to be paired with rare beef whether it’s a steak or a roast. The flavours are Raspberry, Strawberry, Blackberry, Blueberry — okay fine … it’s berry! and to follow this up you have silky tannins on a very smooth finish.
