2015 Wildass Sauvignon Blanc – Vintages 376814 – $18.95 – ****+ – This is a solid Sauv Blanc from Niagara. There is a nice grassy note that runs through the backbone of this wine from start to finish. There is concentrated tropical fruit with rich passion fruit and pineapple on the palate. The tropical fruit lingers on the finish but there is nice acidity to this wine. I will be looking to pair this with seafood of any kind whether it’s breaded and deep fried or freshly shucked.
2012 Hidden Bench Terroir Caché Meritage – Vintages 505610 – $38.00 – ****½ – This wine is huge in the glass. Grab a nice big Bordeaux glass to really enjoy this wine. The tannin is still firm and grippy, so if you’re going to enjoy this wine young make sure you either let it sit for an hour after opening or put it in a decanter. There are nice Raspberry, Blackberry, Black Currant and Plum flavours in this wine. To be honest this is a wine that would be a great way to start a collection and maybe stow a bottle for a special occasion in a year or two. You can enjoy this wine young, but it will be even better with a little time to settle down.
