Malivoire have dipped their toes into the growing pond of wineries in Ontario making sparkling wine. I say just a toe because they have only made 380 cases total of their initial releases. It’s too bad there isn’t more because they are both very good.
NV Bisous Brut – Winery Only – $29.95 – ****+ – (Only 300 cases made!) This was made in the traditional method and aged on lees for for thirty seven months and there is nice depth to this wine while still remaining light and easy drinking. The nose is fresh baked break with lemon and limes. The flavours match the nose with granny smith apple added to the mix. The bread notes linger on the finish over a refreshing finish. Sparkling wine of this quality at this price makes it easy for me to advocate for “Just Because” sparkling wine. No more saving the bubbles for your special occasions release the bubbles next time you’re doing roast chicken or pork at home!
NM Bisous Rosé – Winery Only – $39.95 – **** – (Only 80 cases made!) The nose on this wine is very similar to the Brut but with the added bonus of hints of Cherry and Cranberry added to the lemon and lime. This is a very pale rosé so don’t expect there to be tons of red fruit flavours in this wine, instead look for everything to be subtle. The cherry and cranberry flavours are there, but they are a part of the big picture that is Lemon, Lime, Apples, Freshly Baked Bread. The finish is clean and refreshing but this wine is still begging to be paired with a turkey spread. If you have the patience pick up a bottle and stow it away until the fall of 2016 if you have the patience … if you can hold on that long you may have the only bottle left by the time Thanksgiving rolls around.
