2013 Chardonnay – $25.00 – **** -There is a lot of fruit on the nose of this wine – apples and lime with a nice mineral note that rises above everything. The flavours match the nose and there is a nice creamy mouthfeel on the mid palate. This wine does sit light and crisp. Everything about this wine is balanced, subtle and delicious.
2013 3 Witches – $20.00 – **** – This wine does smell a little sweet with aromas of honey and pears in syrup coming out of the glass. This definitely smells like warmer weather in a glass. In spite of the sweet nose this is a dry wine with a nice mineral note that lingers after bright crisp acidity keep the palate clean and refreshed. This is a perfect food wine thanks to the high acidity and dry finish. I can see this pairing with just about anything you can put on the table except maybe the heaviest red meat dishes.
2015 Cabernet Sauvignon – $22.00 – **** – The nose on this is black currant jam, but restrained. While sorting through the typical aromas of black currant and raspberry I notice a distinct aroma of Saskatoon berry. Unless you’re from the prairies there’s a good chance you have no idea what I’m talking about. This is very fruit driven and the tannin is silky smooth. To be honest I don’t think this is something I would hold onto in a cellar for more than 2-3 years. This is not a bad thing. This is a wine that is meant to be paired with good food and enjoyed young.
2013 Triumvirate – $36.00 – ****+ – There is a slight savory note of roasted red paper but it’s buried deep under raspberry, cranberry, and blackberry. The tannin is velvet on the palate but still grabs hold of the back of the palate on the way down. The flavours bring some vanillla into the mix and some subtle cocoa notes to the finish. This is a wine that is designed to spend some time in your cellar before you get into it. I would suggest two years to enjoy young or you can hold onto this for seven years.
2015 Pinot Noir – $35.00 – **** – Anyone who is familiar with the wines of Derek Barnett will know of the legendary Lot 48 Pinot Noir from Lailey. Needless to say expectations are high and highly anticipated to see what he can do with County Fruit. The nose is floral with nice violet notes over cranberry and sour cherry. The flavours are ripe cherry with the floral note from the nose bringing up the finish on this wine. There is nice acidity to the finish of this wine leaving the palate clean but with a nice earthiness that isn’t typical of the county. This is a solid bottle and hopefully a preview of what is to come for Pinot from Karlo.
