Flat Rock has some great new wines hitting the shelves over the next few months.
2014 Unplugged Chardonnay – Vintages 068015 (Feb 20, 2016 Release) – $16.95 – ****+ – Who says Unoaked Chardonnay is boring? This wine brings bright Orange, Lemon and Apple on the nose. When you taste this wine the bright flavours match the nose but thanks to lees contact there is a slight creamy texture on the mid palate that helps keep the citrus flavours in place while the bright acidity of this wine gives you a nice clean finish. Enjoy this wine with seafood or roast chicken.
2013 Chardonnay – Vintages April 16, 2016 – $18.95 – ****+ – Apple, Orange, Peach and hints of spice reach out of the glass. When you taste the wine Vanilla is added to the mix and the spice becomes more intense. This is one of my go to Chardonnays when I need my fix on a budget because this wine easily out performs its price. I enjoy this wine often and without food, but it will make a great match to creamy pasta, or fried chicken.
2014 Twisted – Vintages 03127 – $16.95 – ****+ – A blend of Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay this is sure to be a crowd pleaser. There are nice rose petal notes on the nose and on the palate from the Gew, but everything seems to play off each other in this wine. There are great Apple, Peach and Citrus notes thanks to the Riesling. Slightly off-dry with great acidity to match. The vibrant acidity on this wine makes it extremely food friendly, but I find myself imagining this wine best with Netflix and popcorn.
2014 Riesling – Vintages March 5, 2016 – $16.95 – ****+ – This is a very good wine. Soft apple aromas and flavours dominate this wine. But what I find most interesting is a heavier texture on the mid palate that makes the flavours coat your whole mouth with apple flavour. It’s almost as if this is like liquid applesauce. This strikes a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity and even with the medium heavy texture in this wine the finish is crisp and clean.
