Eye on Tawse – 2011 – 2012 Spark, 2011 Laundry Vineyard Cabernet Franc

Last time I was down in Niagara a few things from Tawse caught my eye.  A couple new sparkling wines and the latest vintage of the Laundry Vineyard Cabernet Franc really stood out.

2011 Tawse Spark – $24.95 – This wine is a blend of Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.  Aromas are of baking bread and honey.  Flavours are floral, baked apple and subtle vanilla with nice crisp acidity.  This is a great wine for celebrating or enjoying on it’s own.  It is also available in half bottles at the winery.

2012 Tawse Spark Limestone Ridge Riesling – $19.95 – This is a great wine for celebrating and priced to be enjoyed in more casual settings.  Flavours and aromas are bright and crisp citrus with great acidity and bone dry on the finish.  Definitely an essential for the summer.

2011 Tawse Laundry Vineyard Cabernet Franc – $31.95 – A great wine from 2011 that shows that this is not a vintage to be overlooked and that we have reached a fantastic level on consistency in Ontario winemaking.  Aromas and flavours of Raspberry and Blueberry with just a hint of pepper on the finish.  This will age for a few more years on the wine rack and it will pair well with beef and lamb dishes… but frankly this is one I would enjoy on it’s own.
