2010 Coyote’s Run Rare Vintage Syrah – Vintages 144774 – $32.95 – Wow! I’m a Syrah skeptic but this one is truly fantastic. When I tasted this wine I didn’t know the price either … So I assure you that even at this price it is well worth the price of admission. This is a very big well put together Syrah. Lots of very Smoky and Spicy flavours with clove really standing out. Well integrated flavours of Cherry and subtle Raspberry work their out of the glass. Beautiful, complex, easy drinking and begging to paired with beef or lamb.
2012 Peninsula Ridge McNally Vineyards Proprieter’s Reserve Pinot Noir – Vintages 257543 – $24.95 – This is a nice well priced PInot that leans toward Sour Cherry as far as fruit is concerned. There is a lot of Vanilla on the finish of this wine. Let’s go with roast duck to pair with this wine … It’s been awhile since I’ve had Roast Duck and there are few wines that make as good a match for duck as Pinot.
2013 Tawse Sketches of Niagara Riesling – Vintages 89029 – $17.95 – This is one I look forward to every year. Apple, Lemon, Lime and nice minerality all leap out of this glass. A perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. This wine gets added to the roster as I start pulling out Grandma’s recipes for Paprikash and Perogies. The sugar and acidity help cut right through the salt and fats typically found in the eastern european comfort foods.
