2010 Coyote’s Run Five Mile Red – LCBO 283416 – $16.95 – Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. One of my favourite things about blended wines in Ontario is the rule book… the one that clearly doesn’t exist. How these four grapes were married into a bottle is beyond me, but what matters is the end result. What you find in the Five Mile Red is fantastic balance where nothing is over-powering and you get a wine that would make a fantastic Friday night sipper or just as easily pair with your Sunday night meal. Fantastic presence of ripe red fruits, cheery and plum with just a little bit of black pepper on the finish.
2010 Malivoire Gewurztraminer – VINTAGES 542522 – $24.95 – Sometimes I find a wine so unique in the glass it’s beyond exciting. What is interesting about this wine are the focused aromas of rose petal and lavender. I am used to finding wines with a floral bouquet but never has it been so easy to identify. The flavours match … this is like drinking what a wonderful bunch of roses smells like. There is just a bit of sweetness on the finish and soft acidity so the finish lingers. Due to the power of the aroma you will need to be more careful with food pairings but a lightly seasoned fish (trout or salmon) would go great with this.
