2013 Novas Gran Reserva Carmenere-Cabernet Sauvignon – LCBO 434662 – $15.80 – **** – Simply put this wine is terrific value. The nose has pencil shaving and wood smoke on it layered over black berry, currant and strawberry. Deep red fruit on the palate with raspberry, dark cherry, and strawberry. The finish on this wine is smooth and approachable, but the tannin still does grip on it’s way down. Wines like this remind me that not everything needs to sit in a cellar to improve. This is a great wine you can pick up and drink this summer with burgers or a steak. But this doesn’t need food to be enjoyed, if we need our chilled white wines for a patio in the summer save this one for the evening when the sun goes down and pair it with great company.
