I don’t write about not wine very often but sometimes I need to make a departure. When I’m not drinking wine I’m looking for a Lager, Pilsner, Bourbon or Gin … Okay so this blog post is starting to read like a George Thorogood song and the reference is kind of dated. When I was contacted by the makers of SoCIAL Lite – Vodka and Soda Beverage I was curious. I know that there are a lot of people who are calorie conscious.
When you are lucky enough to taste a lot of wines and spirits you are aiming to find what is good, and to be honest if it’s not good I am not afraid to pour it down the sink or spit it out. I will never understand the Vodka-Water people. Let’s fact it, that is not a cocktail … it’s watered down nothing. Skinny Girl? Great marketing but they sacrifice decent taste for calories. For the record 1 oz of Gin or Whiskey have about 70 calories and taste great on the rocks.
This brings me to SoCIAL Lite. It’s a Vodka and Soda Beverage (that’s what it says on the can). It’s a cocktail that is definitely made for the same Calorie wise imbiber. However, even if you don’t care about calories you will probably enjoy this drink very much. There are two flavours that will be making their way onto shelves. Lemon Cucumber Mint and Lime Ginger. The drink comes in a 355 ml can and it has 4% alcohol. They are both unsweetened and if you’re counting have 80 calories. I am a big fan of the cocktail craze that is currently sweeping the city but when it comes to mixing a drink at home nothing beats opening a bottle or opening a can. These cocktails are pre-mixed and ready to drink and will make a great addition to a backyard bbq or patio season. What do these drinks taste like? They both offer up clean crisp flavours that match exactly what is listed on the can. The short list of ingredients on the back of the can definitely account for the clean flavours there is nothing in these drinks except for Carbonated Water, Vodka, Lime/Lemon Juice and Natural Flavours.
Here is the bottom line. I don’t care that these are low calorie, they taste good and you are likely to find them in my fridge throughout the summmer this year.
