2013 Hidden Bench Estate Riesling – Vintages 183491 – $23.95 – **** – Hidden Bench is a great producer and I had a chance to visit them in December. It was great to get a chance to re-taste this wine. There is great mineral on the nose with apple and lemon. This wine is perfectly balanced with nice bright acidity and just a hint of sweetness on the finish. This will make a great addition to the patio or cottage and doesn’t need any food pairings to truly enjoy this wine. It will make a great match to grilled chicken or pork.
2012 Redstone Cabernet – Vintages 415828 – $19.95 – ****+ – Wow! There are great notes of Cedar, Vanilla and Pencil Shavings on the nose layered over Blackberry and Currant. In the glass you have Vanilla, Blackberry, Dark Cherry and Dark Plum. For under twenty dollars you have a great red wine that is drinking great right now, but you can afford to pick up a few bottles to age. This wine will mellow over the next five years. This is one of those wines that in my house I will not be pairing with anything — but if I do I will be matching it with a nice striploin or ribsteak.
