2011 Big Bluff Red – LCBO 404046 – $12.95 – ***1/2 – Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot and Merlot make for an interesting blend. The back of the bottle says the mission is “to Showcase the character and quality of Essex Region wines.” Priced very well you have a wine that is smoky on the nose with raspberry and strawberry driving this medium bodied wine that has a smooth finish. Priced to drink right now and unpretentious this is an easy drinking food friendly red wine that demonstrates the extra ripeness that you get from the slightly longer growing season you get from the Lake Erie North Shore.
2013 Big Bluff White – LCBO 404061 – $12.95 – ***1/2+ – This white blend is made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Auxerrois. Slightly off-dry but perfectly balanced this wine has loads of citrus flavours. This is a great easy drinking patio sipper. I realize that I’m a few months off but this is the sort of wine that you can pick up and stock up at the cottage.
