Wine Review October 2, 2011 – Harbour Estates Midnight – Inniskillin Barrel Aged Chardonnay

Inniskillin Barrel Aged Chardonnay – $14.95 – This is a well rounded Chardonnay with a perfect amount of oak.  It has a creamy buttery feel on the palette with a bit of acid on the finish so it doesn’t linger in the mouth too long.  This is a perfect easy drinking wine that would pair perfectly with Turkey or Chicken.  However with the acidity in this wine it does make it easy to pair with any light meal or appetizer.

Harbour Estates Midnight (Cabernet/Merlot)  – LCBO 58479 – $10.95 – This is a heavy full bodied Cabernet Merlot.  The red fruit typically found in this blend is buried underneath a very earthy flaour.  If you’re a fan of Henry of Pelham’s Baco Noir, or Baco Noir in general this would be a nice change.  If you’re a fan of the more fruit forward reds I have recommended in the past weeks you may want to skip this one as it is very dry and the fruit flavours are very subtle.  Being a full bodied red this would pair nicely with a steak and onions, lasagne, or a hearty stew.
