Wine Review April 8, 2012 – 2010 Peller Family Series Cabernet Franc – 2010 Pillitteri Gewurztraminer/Riesling

2010 Peller Family Series Cabernet Franc – LCBO 582833 – $11.95 – A very good well priced Cabernet Franc from the great 2010 vintage.  This wine has a great balance of dark fruit flavours, full of things like Blackberry and Currant.  All this is balanced with nice oak flavours and black pepper on the finish.  The great balance makes this an ideal pairing for any heavier beef or lamb dish.  I would also serve this with Tomato based pasta sauces and pizza.  This can be a little harsh right out of the bottle, I would let this sit on the counter for 30 minutes before serving.

2010 Pillitteri Gewurztraminer/Riesling Fusion – LCBO 349126 – I have had a lot of great Rieslings over the past few months this one is no exception.  This is truly a taste of summer, with nice acidity to balance out very strong peach flavours.  One thing that makes this wine stand out are a subtle bitterness on the finish reminiscent of grapefruit.  This wine is very food friendly with almost limitless pairing options with this acidity.  I would pair this Thai Food, or Spicy Chicken Wings.
